1948

The year 1948 marked the culmination of the Nakba (catastrophe) - the systematic ethnic cleansing of Palestinians that began before the official declaration of the State of Israel. This period saw the displacement of approximately 800,000 Palestinians from 530 villages and communities, the implementation of Plan D (Tochnit Dalet), and the establishment of Israel on the rubble of Palestinian society. The events of 1948 were the result of decades of Zionist colonization efforts, British mandate policies, and the rejection of Palestinian calls for coexistence.
